Self Defence Training

In criminal law, self-defence is where someone counteracts an attack or potential attack to defend themself against any harm. Self-defence is a common defence used in criminal law to defend a crime committed by force.

However, although the law allows someone to defend themselves, they may do, but only do, what is reasonably necessary. In other words, a person may only use force in reasonable circumstances to prevent crime or assist arrest.

Benefits of Learning Self Defence

Aim of this course
  • Safety: Self-defence classes will give you the ability to protect yourself and overcome an attacker. Having the knowledge on how to defend yourself can help you feel less anxious in public, or fearful when walking alone when it is dark. You will learn the basics of how to quickly disable and protect yourself from an attacker allowing you the time to escape.

  • Situational awareness:  Self-defence classes will enhance your awareness of your surroundings. An attack can happen at any time, you never plan to be attacked, so you must always be aware of your surroundings. Self-defence classes will help you gain this awareness if this type of situation should arise in your day-to-day life.

  • Increased self-confidence: Training in self-defence helps individuals, especially women, develop more confidence in themselves and their surroundings. Knowing and feeling confident that you have the ability to defend yourself, in turn gives you the confidence and freedom to fully explore the world, meet new people and find new ways to interact with others.

At the end of this course, you will have learned about:
  1. Understanding fear and using it to your advantage
